Choices
Teenage Lovers Struggle to Overcome Obstacles as they Fight for Each Other
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Ricky and Lindy are wounded and in love. Brought together by a physical and emotional bond, these teenagers desperately want to be together forever. But the young couple will have to overcome a series of traumatic events to make their dream come true in the gripping romance by Carole McKee, Choices (published by AuthorHouse).
Ricky’s mother thinks that he is out of control. She sends her son – a tall, dark, handsome 16-year-old – from their Chicago home to Pittsburgh to live with his uncle, Dr. Nicholas Bazario. But the change in scenery won’t change the fact that Ricky is still grieving for his father, who passed away when Ricky was only 13.
An extraordinary singing voice draws Ricky to the high school auditorium one day, and there he finds Lindy – a beautiful 16-year-old with blonde hair, big blue eyes and the face of an angel. Lindy lost her mother when she was 14, and her father has paid little attention to her since. Ricky moves toward the voice, mesmerized. When they come face to face, the electricity between them is powerful and immediate.
Lindy is innocent and fragile, so unlike the girls Ricky knew in Chicago. Unable to think about anyone or anything else, Ricky commits himself to her, and the relationship develops quickly on both a physical and emotional level.
Soon Lindy is pregnant. Carrie, who has a crush on Ricky, goes out of her way to undermine Lindy’s place in Ricky’s life. She tells Lindy’s father about the pregnancy, and he savagely beats his daughter with a belt. This is only the first in a series of horrific experiences that threaten to utterly damage Lindy. Later, Lindy is shot, loses her baby, is ripped away from Ricky and placed in a foster home, is raped by her foster father, and is kidnapped and held at gunpoint.
Through it all, Lindy has been able to rely on Ricky. Adversity has only strengthened their bond and their determination to be together forever. Ricky and Lindy go on the run. When they turn 18, they get married and return to Pittsburgh. Lindy learns she has inherited a house and a fortune. They make plans to get their high school diplomas and start thinking about college. The unbreakable couple knows that forever is a long road, and this is just the beginning.
Choices is the first novel in a planned trilogy about Ricky and Lindy as they grow together. Carole McKee is also the author of Perfect (published by AuthorHouse), which draws its intensity from the laughter and tears of her emotionally powerful style. McKee, a native of Pittsburgh, is currently living in Florida while working on a master’s degree at Argosy University.
